Follow along with me, as I aspire to inspire women of color to heal, on the journey of self-discovery through guided solo travel exploration.

I am working to raise $1000 start a pen pal writing program.

Background:

One of the many things that I enjoyed about my childhood was hosting international exchange students. I was able to meet kids from all around the globe and share amazing experiences with them in my hometown of Aurora, CO. However, as I have grown older, one of my greatest regrets was not being able to manage the relationships myself.

We are looking for students with an interest of one day coming to Africa. The goal is for the relationship to extend from primary school and upon graduation students meet in Africa in person, hopefully solidifying long term partnerships and friendships b/t Africa and America.

Purpose:

Children will be identified in Uganda, Rwanda and Colorado to participate in this pen pal program. The purpose of the program will be in encourage literacy, penmanship, and global relations among American and African youth. The goal is for the children to develop a sense of a global community at a young age with the added responsibility of maintaining and seeing the relationships through to high school graduation.

Structure: This is a technology free pen pal program. Children will exchange handwritten letters and postcards sharing their life, hobbies, and school activities.

We want to keep it at this program technology free for several reasons.

· Access to technology is still a challenge for some students and communities.

· We want to monitor the communications and keep students away from online bullying and distractions.

· We want to encourage literacy, penmanship and critical thinking.

Frequency:

To maintain status in the program at least one letter per quarter must be sent. Of course, if the students, find a connection – they will be encouraged to communicate with one another more
